While fans await Joaquin Phoenix’s appearance as the ‘Joker’ in the eponymous film, a movie where he plays Jesus Christ opened in US theaters on Friday.
Mary Magdalene circles a woman, one of the followers of Jesus, who gets “rescued” by the Lord. To get into character as the Messiah, Phoenix grew out his hair, but there was one thing in the Bible that he absolutely refused to do.
Telling CNN in an interview, the actor details a scene from the Bible where Jesus restores the sight of a blind man by rubbing mud in his eyes. In the film, the person is played by a woman.
Phoenix describes that despite being aware of that scene from the Bible, he “had never really considered it” until he was expected to reenact the feat in front of the camera.
“I thought, I’m not going to rub dirt in her eyes. Who the f**k would do that?” the star recounted. “It doesn’t make any sense. That is a horrible introduction to seeing.”
Instead, Phoenix played by ear and licked his thumb—which was left mud-free—before rubbing the blind woman’s eyes.Visit Website
